Students aged 18–26 benefit from free health insurance. Learn which documents are needed to validate insurance status.

The Health Insurance House reminds pupils, students, and PhD candidates across the country of the steps required to validate or update their health insurance status. According to the law, young people aged between 18 and 26 are insured without paying contributions, provided they do not earn income from employment.

In order to access reimbursed medical services, they must, at the beginning of each academic year, submit to their local health insurance house a document proving their status as pupil, student, or PhD candidate, validated for the 2025–2026 academic year. Documents may be submitted directly at the counter or sent by e-mail to the territorial health insurance institution.

Required documents:

  • Valid identity card at the time of submission;
  • A document issued by the educational institution for the 2025–2026 academic year (stamped student card or enrollment certificate).

The validation of insurance status is based both on the protocol between the Ministry of Education and the National Health Insurance House, and on the documents submitted by pupils, students, or PhD candidates. This procedure is particularly important until the automatic transmission of data by the educational institutions takes place.

Health insurance institutions recommend that all young people in this category update their insured status at the beginning of the school or academic year, to avoid delays in accessing medical services.
