The Ministry of Health announces a national first: Romania’s first mobile MRI system has been put into operation at the Nicolae Oblu Emergency Clinical Hospital in Iași, allowing high-performance imaging investigations to be carried out directly in the operating room and in intensive care.
Starting today, Romania has the first mobile MRI system in the history of its public healthcare system, Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete announced on Thursday. The equipment, financed through a modernisation project worth over 1 million euros, allows advanced imaging investigations to be performed without moving critically ill patients.
According to the minister, the technology can be used during neurosurgical procedures, directly in the operating room, as well as in intensive care units. “We are no longer moving critical patients around the hospital. We are bringing the technology to them. Where every second counts,” Rogobete said.
The official stressed that this investment marks “a new stage” in transforming the Nicolae Oblu Hospital in Iași into a national and European reference centre for neurosurgery and spinal surgery. “Romania is no longer catching up — Romania is innovating. Romania is opening new paths,” the minister stated.
To demonstrate the speed of the new system, Rogobete announced that he personally underwent an MRI scan in the mobile unit: “6 minutes, compared to the approximately 60 minutes of a conventional MRI.”
The minister congratulated the hospital’s management and medical team for their continuous efforts to modernise: “If we want people to trust the healthcare system, then the system must do things that people can truly believe in.”
