Romania Adopts a National Strategy for Combating Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases for 2025–2030

Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are responsible for the highest number of deaths and cases of disability in Romania. The approved strategy aims to reduce the impact of these conditions through a coherent national plan focused on active prevention, rapid intervention, and effective rehabilitation.

Key measures included in the strategy:

• Increase by 10% the capacity for early diagnosis;
• Establish 20 community centers for patients with chronic cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases;
• Expand intensive care capacity and funding for complex interventions by 20%;
• Develop the network of cardiovascular and neurological rehabilitation centers (+15%);
• Create a national registry of high vascular risk patients;
• Introduce mobile apps and online platforms for disease management;
• Recruit specialized personnel: cardiologists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and nurses with specific training.

The strategy is built around five strategic pillars:

1. Creating an integrated data system,
2. Improving access to diagnosis and treatment,
3. Developing medical rehabilitation services,
4. Strengthening the healthcare workforce,
5. Encouraging research and innovation in cardiovascular and neurological fields.

This document is part of the National Health Strategy and was developed with the support of the specialty commissions in cardiology and neurology.
