New Cardiovascular Institute in Târgu Mureș

A major milestone has been reached in the development of the new headquarters for the Târgu Mureș Institute for Emergency Cardiovascular Diseases and Transplantation (IUBCVT): the construction permit has been issued.

With this approval in place, work on the project can now begin. By mid-next year, cardiology specialists will be able to practice in a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the latest medical standards.

“The heart will have its own center of excellence in Mureș County. Thousands of children from across the country will continue to find life-saving treatment at the Heart Institute, where a long-awaited project, dreamed of by generations of specialists, is finally taking shape. The Prefecture played an active role in obtaining the necessary documentation and overcoming bureaucratic hurdles. This new headquarters is the main project funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) in Mureș County and represents a commitment embraced by the entire community,” stated Mureș County Prefect, Dr. Ovidiu Butuc, in an official statement.

The Târgu Mureș Institute for Emergency Cardiovascular Diseases and Transplantation is a national reference center, performing over 1,000 cardiovascular surgeries annually, including more than 250 pediatric operations. The new facility, financed through the PNRR, will feature five floors, an operating block with four surgical theaters, three angiography rooms, two electrophysiology rooms, and 85 patient wards.

The construction is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2026. Once operational, the future Heart Institute will mark a significant advancement in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in Romania.
