Mehiläinen group acquires Regina Maria healthcare network in landmark €1 billion deal

The transaction, valued at approximately €1 billion, also includes Serbia’s MediGroup. This acquisition is pending regulatory approval and is anticipated to conclude by the end of the year. ​

Mehiläinen announced on April 1, 2025 that it has signed agreements to acquire Regina Maria, a leading healthcare company in Romania, and MediGroup, a leading healthcare company in Serbia.

Regina Maria has experienced substantial growth under Mid Europa Partners, expanding to encompass 8 hospitals, 53 polyclinics, and 28 imaging centers. Over €250 million has been invested in acquisitions and facility development. ​

Janne-Olli Järvenpää, CEO of Mehiläinen Group, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating that Regina Maria is among the fastest-growing private healthcare providers in Europe, renowned for its high-quality medical services and exceptional management team. ​

Regina Maria offers extensive medical clinic and hospital services to over 2 million customers annually with approximately 11,000 professionals. In its sister company, MediGroup, healthcare services are provided with over 2,500 employees. The completion of the acquisitions requires regulatory approvals.
