ICUTR Cluj-Napoca: Ten lives saved through kidney transplants this year

Notably, four of these procedures were pediatric interventions, including one pediatric autotransplant. This achievement underscores ICUTR’s commitment to advancing renal transplantation and providing life-saving treatments to patients of all ages.

These procedures, essential for patients in suffering, were made possible thanks to the generosity of donor families and the professionalism of the medical team.

„Through the noble gesture of donor families, the pain of loss has been transformed into a priceless gift for patients in urgent need of a transplant,” stated representatives of ICUTR.

A particularly special case was that of a pediatric patient from Călărași, who was safely transported to Cluj thanks to the collaboration between the Ambulance Service, SMURD, and the General Aviation Inspectorate. The involvement of medical teams and authorities made the life-saving intervention possible, highlighting the importance of cooperation in the emergency medical system.

To expand transplant activity and save more lives, ICUTR aims to relocate to a new facility that will allow for the development of the necessary infrastructure to increase renal transplant capacity for both adults and children, as well as to resume the pancreatic transplant program. The institute calls on authorities and the community for support in this vital endeavor.
