Government approves investment for a new simulation and experimental surgery center at UMF Cluj-Napoca

The Romanian Government approved the technical-economic indicators for building a simulation, training, and experimental surgery center at University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca.

The Government of Romania adopted, this week, 2025, the technical-economic indicators for the construction of a Simulation, Training, and Research Center for Professional Competence Development, as well as an Experimental Surgery and Training Center at the „Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca.

Through this investment, the university aims to provide education and practical training based on medical and surgical simulation, support the professional development of medical personnel, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the medical education system by utilizing the most advanced technologies and training methods.

The new complex will include a simulation center, spaces for experimental surgery, specialized laboratories, a biobank, dental facilities, as well as educational spaces such as departments, amphitheaters, offices, and a library. The buildings housing these facilities will have a total built-up area of 16,952 square meters.

The investment, estimated at over 254 million lei, will be financed through external reimbursable funds under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the university’s own revenues, and other legally established sources. The project implementation period is 60 months.

This initiative represents an important step in modernizing Romania’s medical education infrastructure, ensuring optimal conditions for training future healthcare professionals.
