Cseke Attila to take over the Ministry of Health following the resignation of Alexandru Rogobete

The Ministry of Health will be taken over by Cseke Attila Zoltan after the resignation of former minister Alexandru Rogobete earlier today. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan at the end of the government meeting.

The move is part of a broader cabinet reshuffle following the resignation of ministers supported by the Social Democratic Party.

“At the Ministry of Health, Mr. Cseke Attila Zoltan. As you know, he has previously managed this portfolio, has significant administrative experience, and the main challenges here relate to hospital investments, the implementation of PNRR-funded projects, and the ministry’s commitments regarding administrative reform,” the Prime Minister stated.

Ensuring continuity of ongoing projects

According to Ilie Bolojan, the proposed interim ministers were selected to ensure continuity in government activity.

“Our goal was to nominate experienced individuals who can immediately take over responsibilities, avoid disruptions, and ensure that ongoing projects continue,” he added.

The newly appointed ministers are expected to fully assume their responsibilities by Monday, following a short transition period.

Who is Cseke Attila

Cseke Attila Zoltan is a lawyer and public administration policy expert, with previous experience as Minister of Development, Public Administration and Public Works, as well as Minister of Health.

He has been involved in launching major national programs, including the national nursery construction program, as well as large-scale infrastructure and seismic safety projects. He contributed to the drafting of Romania’s urban planning code and played a role in the adoption of the administrative code.

He also contributed to the decentralization of the healthcare system, a process that led to the modernization of several hospitals.

A member of Parliament since 2008, he previously led the UDMR Senate group and served on legal and public administration committees. He graduated in law from the University of Oradea. He was born in Marghita, Bihor County, is married and has two children.

Political context

The leader of the The Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), Kelemen Hunor, stated that the party will remain in government to ensure stability.

“UDMR will remain in government to ensure its smooth functioning. This is in the interest of citizens and Romania,” he said.

The appointments are expected to become official once the decisions are published in the Official Gazette in the coming days.
