Complex Pediatric Bariatric Surgery Performed at St. Constantine Hospital in Brașov

St. Constantine Hospital in Brașov has successfully performed the most complex pediatric bariatric surgery in Romania, giving a 17-year-old girl the chance at a healthier life.

The patient, diagnosed with super morbid obesity (BMI 77, height 1.40 m, weight 168 kg), underwent a Gastric Sleeve procedure designed to significantly reduce body weight and the risks associated with her condition. The postoperative evolution was favorable, and the young patient was discharged in just 48 hours, after which she was transferred back to the pediatric clinic for further monitoring.

The intervention had a humanitarian character, with all costs covered entirely by donations from the medical team at the Brașov Children’s Clinic, demonstrating the commitment and solidarity of healthcare professionals towards patients in need.

The medical team that performed the surgery included:

  • Surgical team: Dr. Bogdan Moldovan, Dr. Radu Pișică, nurses Angela Cotoară, Delia Melinte, and Ioana Neacșu.
  • Anesthesia team: Dr. Vlad Untaru and assistant Marcu-Roth Christian Daniel.
  • Attending pediatrician: Dr. Andreea Țâbian.

This medical achievement marks an important step in pediatric bariatric surgery in Romania and opens new perspectives for young patients struggling with severe obesity.
