At the end of 2024, 23,422 patients with diabetes were registered in Caraș-Severin County, representing 7.4% of the population.
This information was presented during this year’s inaugural edition of the Regional Conferences of the Romanian Society of Diabetes, Nutrition, and Metabolic Diseases (SRDNBM), held last week in Reșița.
Although Caraș-Severin County is among the most efficient in the country in diagnosing diabetes, access to diabetologists remains a major challenge, with only one specialist for every 47,243 residents.
At the national level in Romania, epidemiological studies show that 11.6% of adults suffer from diabetes.
The SRDNBM Regional Conferences were launched to support doctors working outside major university centers by providing them access to the latest scientific information and best practices in diabetes management. The event in Reșița included both medical education sessions for professionals and public awareness activities.
„We aim to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and collaboration between specialists, authorities, and healthcare decision-makers to improve the care of diabetes patients,” stated Prof. Dr. Bogdan Timar, President of SRDNBM.
