Buzău County Emergency Hospital: Minimally invasive neurosurgical procedure

The procedure was carried out on February 10, 2025, with excellent results, and the patient was discharged the same day.

The patient, a 59-year-old woman from Buzău, was admitted to the hospital with severe thoracic pain following a fall. Medical investigations revealed two compression fractures at the T11 and T12 thoracic vertebrae, requiring urgent intervention.

The surgery, performed by neurosurgeons Dr. Ștefan-Anișor Rotărescu and Dr. Bogdan Rotund, with the support of the Anesthesia and Intensive Care (A.T.I.) team led by Dr. Ion Tudos, lasted only 30 minutes. This minimally invasive procedure enabled the patient to recover quickly and be discharged on the same day.

„In recent years, S.J.U. Buzău has benefited from major investments in medical equipment, allowing us to perform such complex procedures. Residents of Buzău can confidently rely on our hospital’s services,” stated the hospital’s manager, legal advisor Sorin Pătrașcu, in a press release.

Percutaneous vertebroplasty is primarily used for patients with osteoporosis or vertebral trauma and offers numerous advantages: a short intervention time, rapid recovery, and same-day discharge. While the cost of such a procedure in a private hospital exceeds 12,000 lei, at S.J.U. Buzău, the procedure is covered by the County Health Insurance Fund.

This medical breakthrough confirms the progress of the Neurosurgery Department at S.J.U. Buzău, which, since its establishment, has performed numerous complex interventions, further strengthening patient access to modern and effective treatments.
